Balmoral Castle, Scotland
You can’t go to Scotland without seeing a castle so we stopped at Balmoral, the Scottish holiday home of the Royal family, on our way down to Edinburgh. The current castle was built in the 1850s and overseen by Queen Victoria. As it is still used by the Royal family as a private residence, the Queen spends part of the summer here, you cannot go tour the inside of the castle but we were able to peek into the ballroom (no photos allowed). Even though we couldn’t go inside, the grounds are so impressive (and HUGE at 50,000 acres) and it was a beautiful day to walk around.
We ended up eating lunch at the castle cafe and it was fantastic! Definitely stop for lunch if you’re there.
After the castle, we stopped by the Royal Lochnager Distillery to taste some whisky! I want to quit my job and travel around Scotland tasting whisky - dream scenario!
This was the last day of our road trip and we couldn’t have asked for better weather - beautiful blue skies and rolling green hills <3.
